Background I was born in New Zealand and grew up there before moving to Europe at 17 to live and study. I completed my formal tertiary education at Chelsea College of Art, London, UK and chose to specialize in stained glass and architectural glass design. England was the perfect country to work in this field and on graduating I joined London’s largest stained glass studio at that time; Goddard & Gibbs. This was one of the studios in the UK that created many of the beautiful early ecclesiastical stained glass for Churches and Cathedrals for many countries around the world including New Zealand and Australia. I learned all aspects of building large scale works, especially domes, with a large team of experts and including the late John Lawson, the most prolific and brilliant stained glass designer of his time. After six years working in England I spent ten months at Derix Studios in Germany to enjoy a profoundly different culture of stained glass www.derix.com. Today I live and work in New Zealand. If you wish to inquire about a project in another country you are welcome to contact me to discuss how this may be arranged. Rug design New Zealand has, for generations produced the finest wool in the world, arguably the best fibre for rugs and carpets. Quality wool carpet is not only lovely to walk on but is a non-toxic, healthy material which is sustainably produced. I have completed and project managed large carpets for clients Heidelberg NZ, Baxter NZ and Pfizer NZ. These are hand tufted originals, made by Dilana NZ, of a very heavy weight 100% wool for longevity, depth and richness of colour and beauty. You are welcome to contact me if you would like to discuss having a rug designed and made for your space, or you can contact Dilana NZ directly: info@dilana.co.nz
“In my opinion and experience Michelle has the artistic, organizational and communication skills to perform and excel. For all projects Michelle has had full contact and responsibility in developing designs, including direct communication with clients. She repeatedly proved her ability to understand design intentions, visualize spaces and develop solutions both appropriate and enhancing. Importantly she has been able to communicate ideas clearly to all the project team, adjusting ideas and direction if needed to reach the most successful result.” “On behalf of the Vestry of Holy Trinity Parish I write to express our deepest appreciation for the startlingly beautiful stained-glass Mariners Window which you designed and crafted for the parish. Now it is completed we have the privilege of admiring its beauty and being uplifted in spirit. We wish to thank you for your care and patience and for bringing it to completion.” “Michelle worked for this company as a designer, completing several large projects from conception, design proposals, pricing, construction and general supervision and installation. She exhibited an exceptional talent with successful projects in several countries as well as the United Kingdom and proved very capable of dealing with some large-scale schemes. Her sense of line and colour and complimentary use of glass to enhance this ensured her popularity among several eminent international architects.” 64-9-445-2525 • 027 445-8023 • mandrou@xtra.co.nz |
